Brunel Museum
Biography
The Brunel Museum is a much-loved museum in the London Borough of Southwark, celebrating the story of the building of the Thames Tunnel – the first tunnel under a river anywhere in the world. The Museum displays are housed within the engine house, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The adjacent 15-metre-deep tunnel shaft is Grade II* listed and is available for fashion shows, film shoots and commercials. The Brunel Museum aims to preserve for public benefit the historic Engine House and Tunnel Shaft in Rotherhithe, to share our appreciation of the incredible work of Marc and Isambard Brunel and the wide impacts of their work today, and to provide a community space that enhances the surrounding conservation area.
