Biography
Roger Hutchings is an accomplished British documentary photographer who began his career under the guidance of Magnum photographer David Hurn. He worked as a photojournalist for the London Observer Newspaper, covering both British and global events. Later, he joined Network Photographers, taking on assignments for prominent news magazines. Hutchings also ventured into personal documentary projects, earning acclaim for works like 'Thatcher's Britain' and 'Bosnia.' In 1996, he transitioned to fashion photography, earning recognition and collaborating with Giorgio Armani on two books. His style evolved to focus on colour imagery and inner contemplation while retaining underlying themes of geometry and intensity. Hutchings then became a Senior Lecturer at The London College of Communication, later serving as Course Director. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the photography community by chairing the World Press Photo Jury and The British Press Photographer's Awards. In 2005, he was featured in the BBC series 'A Digital Picture of Britain,' exploring the influence of geography on artists' work and the role of technology in contemporary photography.
