Biography
Manchester Art Gallery's internationally renowned collection spans six centuries of British and continental fine and decorative art. There are currently around 25,000 items in the collection and over 2,000 of these are on display in the Gallery. The collection has been awarded Designated Status, which makes it as a pre-eminent collection of high quality and importance. The Gallery of Craft and Design also houses over 1000 pieces of decorative art including silver, ceramics and glass. The landmark exhibition of the artist Ford Madox Brown at Manchester Art Gallery in 2011 was the first since 1964 of this fascinating artist - a pioneer of the Pre-Raphaelite style.
