NOTTINGHAM CITY MUSEUMS & GALLERIES
Biography
Of the original castle only the grounds and some curtain walling survives. The Gallery is housed in the extant building, an impressive 17th century pink sandstone mansion in the grounds. The impressive Victorian collection of the Nottingham Museum is so large it is shown on rotation. This expansive collection includes works by Rossetti, John Brett, the Pre-Raphaelite, James Collinson and a variety of genre work by artists such as Marcus Stone. Other Victorian interest includes Laslett J. Pott’s large, sombre costume piece, Mary Queen of Scots being led to her execution, and typical works by George Morland, James Lonsdale, George Clausen in his Dutch period, Francis Wheatley, William Shaayer, W. F. Yeames and sea pieces by Edwin Hayes.
