Biography
Tabley House was designed by John Carr of York for Sir Peter Byrne and completed in 1776, it is the only 18th century Palladian house in Cheshire. As well as a remarkable collection of furniture, the house holds a collection of important paintings collected by the Leicester family. Among the many family portraits are examples of works by J.M.W. Turner, William Dobson, James Ward and Daniel Mytens. The 19th and 20th century family paintings by artists from George Jones to Graham Rust are also featured as well as examples of work by Lely, John MartinSir Thomas Lawrence and James Northcote.
