THE GURKHA MUSEUM
Biography
The Gurkha Museum, located in the English city of Winchester, tells the story of the Gurkha’s longstanding service to the British Crown that began with the end of the wars between the British East India Company and the Nepalese. So impressed were the British by the Gurkha’s immense courage that they sought them to fight alongside, rather than against them and the resulting partnership survives to this day. The Gurkha Musem’s collection ranges from paintings of important events in the history of the Gurkha regiments to portraits of eminent Gurkhas and images of the medals that they have won for their legendary bravery.
