Founded in 1885, the collections cover fine art and applied arts, archaeology and ethnography, local and industrial history. The Fine and Applied Art collections include paintings and drawings from the Renaissance, Reformation and Baroque periods, British Watercolours and Arts and Crafts. Its permanent collection includes Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema Pheidias and the Parthenon Frieze.
