CAINE, OSMUND
Biography
Osmund Caine was an artist, teacher and stained-glass designer. He ran the Twickenham School of Art for nearly 20 years with a forceful integrity. A private and complex man, not at ease with modern preoccupations, he was once, bizarrely, credited with having invented the bikini. He studied at the Birmingham School of Art. He was dedicated to traditional art college skills such as life drawing, but was also innovative, introducing illustration, exhibition and graphic design, typography and photography into the curriculum.
