DELAWARE ART MUSEUM
Biography
Founded in 1912, the Delaware Art Museum holds a renowned collection that focuses on American art and illustration as well as the British Pre-Raphaelites (the largest collection of these outside the United Kingdom). It boasts a remarkable number of works by esteemed American illustrator (and Delaware native) Howard Pyle, as well as his students N. C. Wyeth, Maxfield Parrish, and Frank E. Schoonover. Other highlights include Ashcan school member John Sloan’s 20th century paintings, which form a part of a collection of American art that spans more than two hundred years, from the early 19th century to Early American Modernism, Abstraction, and Postmodernism.
