Biography
Bill Frakes is a Nebraska native working in both still photography and video. Beginning his career at the Miami Herald in 1979, he shared the Herald teams Pulitzer Prize for coverage of Hurricane Andrew, was awarded Newspaper Photographer of the Year by NPPA, the Gold Medal by World Press Photo, the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for reporting on disadvantaged peoples, and an award for distinguished foreign reporting by the Overseas Press Club. He began freelancing for Sports Illustrated in 1983 and was added to the SI masthead in 1992. His advertising clients have included Apple, Nike, Coca Cola, Nikon, Mars, Manfrotto, and Reebok.
