FRED JONES JR. MUSEUM OF ART
Biography
In 1971 the Fred Jones Jr. Memorial Art Center was donated by Mr and Mrs Jones after their son's fatal airplane crash, uniting Oklahoma University's Museum of Art, School of Art, and College of Fine Arts all under one roof. A roof which has since doubled in size with architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen's new wing added in 2005 to include additional gallery facilities including a 150-seat auditorium. Re-christened the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in 1992, this diverse collection of Native American, Southwestern art, 20th Century and contemporary American art, sculpture and photography, plus an outstanding selection of French Impressionists, is one of the finest art museums of its kind.
