Newcombe, Rika
Biography
My work is inspired by traces from the past: fossils, ruins and relics. By collecting fragments, categorizing pieces and imagining missing parts, my works explore the woven history of the earth. I was born and grew up in Tokyo. I was always interested in how all life started. Curiosity about the beginning of life led me to study chemistry at university. Since then I moved to Cambridge and started developing my career as an artist. During my time at the Royal College of Art I won the Linklaters Printmaking Award. I also won the Galleries Magazine Award and the London Print Studio Award at the National Print Exhibition. My works have been shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Mall Galleries, Bankside Gallery, and Jerwood Space, London I am a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and the Society of Graphic Fine Art.
