NOVARRO, EDDY
Biography
Born around 1925 in Bucharest, Romania, Eddy Novarro was a photographer and art collector who produced an exceptional archive of portrait photographs of some of the greatest artists of the 20th century. In 1958, when working as a press photographer, Novarro documented the Brazilian pavilion at the EXPO in Brussels where he met René Magritte who introduced him to the major players in the Paris art world. Novarro's photographs of these painters and sculptors were first exhibited in Madrid in 1960 in a show entitled 'Kaleidoscope of Modernity - Chagall, Miró, Picasso and the Avant-garde', where the portraits were displayed alongside artworks by the artists featured. Throughout his career Novarro continued to photograph important artists including Pop artists such as Lichtenstein and Warhol. Novarro died in 2003 in Rio de Janeiro.
