ABERCROMBIE, LYNN
Biography
Lynn Abercrombie was first published in National Geographic Magazine in 1959 and over four decades photographed for National Geographic Society, paving the way for other women photographers. In those days, many thought it was too risky for women to photograph in non-western environments, but Lynn went anyway, often accessing places where men could not go. Lynn captured rare images of women and children, royalty to indigenous and pre-industrial societies, in environments as diverse as Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter, swamps of Iraq, jungles of Venezuela, plateaus of Tibet, and the Andes and Alps.
