Biography

First opened in 1994 and then redeveloped in 2006, the Museum of Croydon is in the Croydon Clock tower, an all-encompassing arts centre in the centre of Croydon. The original Clock tower of the newly extended Town Hall, it links the old with the new. Owned and run by London Borough of Croydon, the Clock tower incorporates the Riesco Gallery, with its collection of china pottery and ceramics, the David Lean Cinema, Croydon’s principal public library and the Braithwaite Hall, used for live events, concerts and conferences. Consisting of over 2000 paintings, prints and drawings, the art collection houses diverse works including local scenes, prints of works by Henry Moore and Bridget Riley, and paintings by Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.
