GLASGOW MUSEUMS
Biography
Glasgow Museums is the name given to a consortium of museums and art galleries that include: Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, The Burrell Collection, Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, The Peoples Palace, Provand’s Lordship, Glasgow Museums Resource Centre, Museum of Transport, Open Museum and Scotland’s Street School Museum. Under this heavy weight title is one of Europe’s finest art collections. As well as displaying iconic home-grown talents such as the Scottish Colourists and Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Glasgow boasts Old Masters such as Rembrandt and El Greco, Impressionist masterpieces by Manet and Degas and an exquisite crucifixion painted by Salvador Dalí. There are some more surprising objects too, such as the banana boots that John Byrne created for the Scottish stand-up comedian Billy Connolly!
