JACKLIN, BILL
Biography
Bill Jacklin was born in London in 1943. He attended Walthamstow Art School in Essex and in 1967 received an M.A. from the Royal College of Art. In 1985 he moved to New York City where he continues to live and work. Jacklin was elected a Royal Academician in 1991. The single unifying quality in Jacklin’s style is his investigation of refracted light across the painted surface. His insistence on making this a defining central feature of his work dates back to the earliest paintings. Maintaining a feeling of awe, he frequently uses bird’s eye views commanding a wide field of vision. We are witnesses to events we can’t quite comprehend and the aerial point of vision plays an equally strong role in underlining the unreal, even dream-like quality inherent in the paintings.
