Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales
Biography
The art collection at the National Museum and Gallery in Cardiff is one of the finest in Europe. The collection contains wonderful old masters and a gallery devoted to the eighteenth century ‘Grand Tour of Europe’ undertaken by the richest Welshman of his day, Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn. The museum’s most famous benefactors were two sisters, Gwendoline and Margaret Davies, who by 1924 had assembled the best collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist pictures in Britain. Their legacy of much-loved paintings transformed the museum.
