A spectacular, modern building is planned to hold the collections of the Art Museum of Estonia. Until then, the collections of Estonian art and foreign art are housed in two of Tallinn’s most beautiful buildings, the 18th century Kadriorg Palace and the 19th century Knighthood House. An indigenous Estonian art began to develop in the late 19th century, represented by such artists as Ants Laikmaa (1866-1942). The Impressionists had a strong influence on Estonian artists.
