BLENHEIM PALACE

Biography

Blenheim Palace is a country house situated in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England. As the seat of the Dukes of Marlborough, it is the only non-royal, non-episcopal country house in England to hold the title of palace. One of England's largest houses, it was built between 1705 and 1722, and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The remarkable Blenheim Palace collection is one of the most valuable art collections in Europe. It features a roster of impressive paintings by Joshua Reynolds, Anthony van Dyck, and John Singer Sargent. The palace itself, built between 1705-1733, was originally a gift from Queen Anne to John Churchill following his victory at the 1704 Battle of Blenheim.
