BOLTON MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY
Biography
The Art Gallery houses a representative British collection, with watercolours from Turner to Hepworth, and some fine Italian baroque paintings. There are also works by Bloomsbury artists, and an important group of bronze busts by Jacob Epstein. The Print collection has c.800 prints, almost all being by 20th century British artists encompassing a wide range of media. An important source of contemporary art is the Contemporary Art Society, which presents a number of works by contemporary artists to the Gallery. The decorative arts collections include significant holdings of ceramics and furniture. Many of the collections originated with donations and bequests, including those from Leverhulme, William Graham, Kaye, Frank Hindley Smith and Editha Taylor.
