Glover, Leigh
Biography
I love painting, the time flies and the mind soars with ideas. I am always on the lookout to experience something new that I could communicate to my canvas. Paintings do not flow every day which is why I have been a gardener for many years. Being out in all weathers and seeing the play of light helps me to experience new insights, feelings and colours. Colour is key for me. I love colour to blow the blues away. The play of light on a landscape is also a thrilling experience. Creativity is liberating and it allows me to play and experiment with colour, form, marks and composition. My painting style is eclectic and is arrived at my experience of the subject I am painting. I am inspired by the natural world, mainly from morning walks with Dean the dog or from working in the garden. I am really taken with the idea of our human need to have one foot in human civilisation and one foot in the nature where we live for survival. I was born in England and studied at Oxford Brookes University and Heatherley’s School of Fine Art, London. My work has been exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (2008), Royal Society of Portrait Painters (2009), Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize (2010), BP Portrait Award (2011) and the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition (2014). I was a heat participant in the television series Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year (ep.5, 2019). Collections include the Worshipful Company of Painter Stainers, Windsor Museum and Library in the Royal Borough of Windsor, private collections in the UK, France, Germany, New Zealand, Australia and United States.
