Biography
The Promenade Room, which now houses Harrogate’s Mercer Art Gallery, was completed in 1806 and stands as Harrogate’s oldest spa building. The Gallery hosts a diverse series of events and exhibitions, ranging from national touring exhibitions of painting, photography, sculpture and crafts, to exhibitions from the permanent collections and an active public arts programme. The gallery is also home to the Harrogate fine art collection which consists of some 2000 works of art, mainly 19th and 20th century paintings by some of the greatest artists of the period. The Mercer Art Gallery also houses the Kent Collection of Antiquities, which consists of material from ancient cultures across the world.
