PARHAM HOUSE

Biography

Parham House and Gardens is a well-loved historic house situated in the South Downs in West Sussex. It has only been home to three families since its foundation stone was laid in 1577, the Palmers, the Bisshopps, and the Pearsons. Purchased in 1922 by the Hon. Clive Pearson and his wife, Alicia, they restored and revived Parham with care and sensitivity, opening to the public in 1948. One of the country’s finest Elizabethan houses, Parham is home to a splendid collection of 16th, 17th and 18th century needlework and wool hangings, as well as a collection of notable Elizabethan and early Stuart portraits, including the renowned portrait of Prince Henry Frederick by Robert Peake.
